Food & Pharma: Hygienic Filtration
Sanitary Design. Validated Compliance.
Precision separation systems engineered for GMP production and food safety.
At Loway Equipment, we bridge the gap between process efficiency and regulatory compliance. Whether you are recovering high-value APIs from fermentation broth, clarifying edible oils, or treating high-strength food wastewater, our solutions are designed to meet the strictest standards of the FDA, GMP, and HACCP.

The Core Challenge: Purity & Compliance
In regulated industries, equipment must protect product integrity.
- Cross-Contamination: Equipment must be fully cleanable (CIP/SIP) to prevent allergen or microbial carryover.
- Product Recovery: Incomplete separation means losing expensive Active Ingredients or Yield.
- Waste Management: Food waste (e.g., dairy, meat) is oily and biologically active, creating odor and compliance risks.
The Loway Solution: Two Lines of Defense
We offer specialized equipment for both your Production Line and your Wastewater Plant.
Best For: Fermentation Broth, Enzymes, Syrup Clarification, Edible Oil Fractionation.
The Tech:
- Ra < 0.8μm Polish: Electropolished SS316L surfaces eliminate bacterial harborage.
- FDA Certified: All wetted plates and cloths come with FDA 21 CFR food-contact certificates.
- Validation Ready: We provide full DQ/IQ/OQ documentation packages for your GMP validation.
Best For: Slaughterhouse Sludge, Dairy Waste, Brewery Effluent.
The Tech:
- Odor Control: Fully enclosed design prevents offensive smells and pests (flies), essential for food safety audits.
- Oil Handling: The self-cleaning mechanism handles oily, greasy sludge (FOG) without clogging, unlike belt presses.
Technology Selection: Matching the Tool to the Zone
(Note: We do not recommend Belt Presses for food plants due to open hygiene risks.)
Hygienic Filter Press
-
Primary Use: Product Manufacturing (Making the drug/food)
-
Separation Quality: High Clarity & Purity. Captures sub-micron particles; ensures sterile filtration capability.
-
Hygiene Level: Ultra-High (GMP/CIP). Sanitary design for direct product contact.
-
Why Loway? Max Yield. Squeezes out every drop of valuable liquid product.
Screw Press (WWTP Model)
-
Primary Use: Waste Treatment (Cleaning the water)
-
Separation Quality: Volume Reduction. Focuses on dewatering sludge, not product clarity.
-
Hygiene Level: Standard Industrial. Enclosed for odor control but not for edible products.
-
Why Loway? Low Maintenance. Runs 24/7 on greasy waste without operator attention.
Key Applications
Application | The Challenge | The Loway Solution |
Pharmaceuticals (Fermentation/APIs) | Recovering cells/antibiotics from broth under aseptic conditions. | Hygienic Membrane Press. Fully enclosed, CIP-cleanable system ensures high-yield biomass recovery without contamination. |
Biotech & Enzymes (Protein Harvest) | Gentle separation of shear-sensitive proteins. | Low-Shear Filtration. Precise pressure control protects bioactivity while concentrating the product. |
Edible Oil & Sugar (Process Food) | Clarifying syrup or fractionating oils (Winterization). | High-Clarity Press. Removes hazes and waxes to produce crystal-clear, shelf-stable food products. |
Food Wastewater (Meat/Dairy/Beer) | Handling greasy, smelly sludge (FOG) from DAF units. | Odor-Free Screw Press. Enclosed design keeps the plant smelling clean and prevents drain blockages. |
At Loway Equipment, we’re committed to helping you optimize your processes with reliable and efficient filter press solutions.

The Manufacturer Advantage: From Lab to Scale
- Pilot Trials: We offer Lab-Scale Presses for testing 1-5 liters of your expensive broth or syrup to validate yield before scaling up.
- Documentation: We speak your language—providing Material Tracing, Surface Roughness Reports, and Welding Logs for your quality audit.
- Global Compliance: Systems designed for ASME, PED, and ATEX requirements depending on your location.
FAQ: Food & Pharma Filtration
Have More Questions? Our technical team is ready to provide detailed, personalized guidance.
Q1: How does Loway support GMP validation?
We follow GAMP5 guidelines. We supply a comprehensive Validation Binder containing Design Qualification (DQ), Material Certs (3.1), and surface finish reports to support your IQ/OQ process.
Q2: Can you handle sticky biological sludge?
For wastewater sludge, yes. Our Screw Press is ideal for biological sludge. For production biomass (like yeast), our Membrane Filter Press with automated cake washing is the superior choice for recovery.
Q3: Is CIP (Clean-in-Place) fully automated?
Yes. Our presses can be equipped with an automated CIP Manifold. The system floods the chamber with caustic/acid/water in sequence to sanitize cloths and plates without opening the press.
Q4: Do you use food-grade materials for parts other than the plates?
Yes. We take “Food Contact” seriously. Not only are the plates FDA-compliant, but we also use H1 Food-Grade Lubricants for all hydraulic and moving parts to eliminate any risk of accidental contamination. All gaskets and seals (EPDM, PTFE) are also certified for food and pharma use.
Q5: Can the filter press be used in an explosion-proof area (e.g., solvent extraction)?
Absolutely. For pharmaceutical processes involving solvents (ethanol, acetone), we provide ATEX / IECEx Certified systems. This includes explosion-proof motors, intrinsically safe sensors, and anti-static filter cloths to ensure safe operation in Zone 1 or Zone 2 environments.
Q6: How dry can the filter cake get? We need to dry it further downstream.
Using our High-Pressure Membrane Squeeze (up to 16-25 bar), we can achieve significantly lower moisture content than standard filtration. For biological biomass, we typically achieve 30-40% dry solids, which drastically reduces the energy cost of your downstream spray dryer or vacuum dryer.
Q7: How do I choose the right filter press for my specific application?
Choosing the right filter press depends on several factors, including the type of wastewater or liquid to be filtered, the required filtration capacity, and the specific industry conditions. Our team at Loway Equipment can help assess your needs and recommend the best filter press model for your application.
